On Her Way Home by Sara Petersen

It is 1923, and Montana is slipping into a state of decline and depression long before the rest of the country will follow suit. Drought and bootlegging are up, and cattle and crops are down. Stowing her grief and insecurities neatly away in her luggage, with a hopeful heart, Jo Swenson boards a train on the Great Northern Railway, headed to a remote cattle ranch along the Northwestern edge of rugged Montana to seek out Leif Hawkins, the man advertising for a new ranch hand. She thinks her journey to the ranch is serendipitous, but after only one week of back-breaking labor, the boss arrives at the ranch and isn’t pleased to find a woman inserted under his roof and into his solitude. Jo had traveled a thousand miles from home, and not one person, including her family, had guessed her true motivation for leaving the farm, but after two minutes in the room with her new boss, he starts digging at her vulnerable spot. Her past has left her bitter and cautious, so when she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him—a cold, solitary man who is burying secrets of his own—Jo is at a crossroads. The warning sentry of her heart and the compelling voice in her soul each fight for their path. During the long, hot summer filled with demanding work, riotous laughter, and solemn discovery, will Jo find the courage to become the woman she was always meant to be or will she discover once again that the worst pain is the pain she doesn’t see coming—life stolen away without preamble, without preparation for mind or heart?

Spring Break Conspiracy by S.D. Allred

"When a fourteen-year-old computer genius is hired by the senior class to extend spring break by hacking into the district network, tripping across a terrorist website turns a field trip into a race to keep himself, his family, and classmates alive—not to mention sabotaging the code that threatens to take down the country.

A sleepy Idaho town is stirred awake as Macklin’s friends and family scramble to diffuse a plot that stretches all the way to India."

Check out Markell T. Bateman's website!

Markell T. Bateman, author of Harvesters series, has a new website! Check it out at www.readharvesters.com. Here's my review of this book:

I'm anxious to know what happens to Gavin in the next book! In this story Gavin is thrown into another world and situation that he doesn't quite understand, changing him and his world completely. Not only does he feel torn between worlds, but he also is intrigued by how the two places are linked. I recommend this book for fantasy readers who love stories that take their minds to new places! Those who aren't into the fantasy genre would even enjoy this book, as I wasn't into the genre at first. The starts out in a real-life setting and follows Gavin's day-to-day life as a typical teenager before he's trapped in another place in the body of a centaur, unsure how to escape.

This book has layers of imagery, humor, plot twists and real-life problems that keep you engaged throughout the book. Markell Bateman has a creative mind, and his writing style paints the plot beautifully! The artistic way he describes scenery, characters' thoughts and feelings, situations and conflicts, etc. is the reason this book stands out from the rest! His voice is characteristic to the era of which he writes. The book not only appeals to young readers, but is engaging for adults as well. It takes talent to write something for younger readers in a way that adults will enjoy as well. And Markell has done it! The idea of harvestry, a power to gather energy to manipulate objects, is intriguing and the magical element in this book! WAY different from other fantasy books! You will love these characters and their stories that help build the main plot. This book has it all--action, humor, love, values, ideas that make you think, battles against good and evil!! I'm excited for the rest of the series to find out what happens with Gavin and the rest of his friends, and to learn more about this world beyond and its connection with earth! There's definitely "more than meets the eye"...
